Do you struggle with transforming your outfits? Don’t worry, we are here to help turn that daily annoyance into a fun challenge. This column will focus on one piece per week, and teach you how to take your look from study sessions in the library to dancing the night away.
The crop top has come a long way since the ’90s, making its way from a crucial piece in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer costume to a spring and summer wardrobe staple. And okay, I’ll admit it, I know it’s not actually summer yet, but I’m experiencing an unseasonably warm spring, and I’ve been itching to pull out my summer wardrobe, including my new crop top! Crop tops are unique, fun, and a little flirty – they give off that totally effortless, laid-back summer vibe.
I’ve noticed that crop tops have been popping up in a variety of different styles and lengths that can suit just about everybody. That’s why this week I’ve decided to conquer my fear and style two looks featuring a crop top, one for day, and one for night.
I chose this crop top because it’s fairly conservative in length, but the fun graphic and print keep it edgy. For class, it’s important to give off a somewhat professional vibe, so wearing a tank under your crop top is necessary. A simple black tank works fine with a detailed top like this one, but obviously there are thousands of possible combinations! Add colored jeans, like this super bright aqua pair, for a wild look that’s on trend but still class-appropriate. Finish off the look with simple slouchy ankle boots and boho-esque wood bangles.

For night, prepare to get a little wild and wear your crop top sans-tank. Of course, if you’re still not totally comfortable with the idea of baring a little tummy, you can always wear a tank top underneath for a cute layered look. A pair of dark wash jeggings give the look more structure and provide a nice contrast to the more revealing top
.
Now it’s time to accessorize! To keep the look fresh for night, try out a pair of super-high ankle booties in a neutral tone. I’m a huge fan of this pair because they look like amped-up hiking boots! Dreamcatcher earrings and a feather necklace emphasize the outdoor music festival vibe of this look, while a neon bag ties everything together with a great pop of color.
