Trends You Need To Try Before You Die


We know plenty of women who defiantly reject for a popular trend ("I know it won't look good on me!" "I can't pull it off!") without at least giving it a test run. Just how do you know you can't wear a bodycon dress if you haven't tried it? What makes you knock a $100 T-shirt if you've never felt the inside of its silky goodness against your skin?

Sneakers — Those who haven't slipped their feet into a cushioned, pillowed pair of sneakers should head to the nearest shoe store, stat. Not only are sneakers comfy as all get out, they make any outfit look cooler

A Dangerous Ring — The thinner the line between weapon or jewelry, the more badass you'll feel. Handholding not recommended.  

A Romper — If you think that rompers are strictly for grade schoolers, think about it this way: They're really just dresses withlegs. Despite your age, body type, or style leanings, there is a romper on the market that'll make you look incredible. 

Beach Waves — Whether it's carefully blown out like the Kardashians or subtly tousled like Louise Du Toit's, beach waves are a glamorous style that — yes — takes ages to do, but makes you look like a celebrity. 

MulbAnimal Prints — Whether it's spotted or striped, a splashy animal print can actually be considered a neutral. For the fauna n00b, start small with a leopard-print bag or belt. More advanced animal lovers should let their inner Fran Fine fly by mixing species, sizes, and colors.

A Body Con Dress — With all the different patterns, built-in shape wear, and gut-busting fabric technology out there, body con dresses are finally flattering on women who aren't built like Gisele. Don't believe us? Give one a test run at a close friend's dinner party, and just try and tell us you don't feel like you've just gotten an instant shot of confidence.

Palazzo Pants — Instead of drowning you in fabric, Palazzo pants actually elongate your frame and slims you down. As long as you pair them with super-tall platforms and more structured layering pieces like a chic blazer or long vest, these can be way chicer than you'd think.

A Luxurious T-Shirt — The $100+ T-shirt gets a lot of flak... and for the most part, deservedly. But as people who live in T-shirts, we see a huge difference between the 3-pack of Hanes and an Isabel Marant wonder that feels as soft as a puppy's belly and makes your boobs, arms, and torso look like they were blessed byVogue's retouching wand. Yeah, it's thatgood.

Cat Eyeliner — From a subtle uptick to a full-on Nike swoop, the cat-eye doesn't require a surgeon's precision — or a heart of steel for that matter. It's an eyelash-lengthening trick that's as old as makeup itself — something that's been around that long has to be worth a try!

Mixing Patterns — Though you may feel like you're just jumbling prints together at first, with time, mixing prints will become a quick way to add some edge to any outfit .

A Fedora — Even if you don't think you have a face made for hats, we suggest you throw all prior assumptions out the window. We've come to learn that fedoras are universally flattering, even on the most stalwart of anti-hat wearers. 

Everyday Sequins — If you follow J.Crew's Jenna Lyons, you'll know that sequins can work for any situation. If you've never tried a sequined shirt, skirt, or short outside of the club, now's your chance. 

High Waisted Jeans — The high-waist jean gets a bad rap, but we blame "pancake butt" on ill fits and retro fabrics. Modern high-waist jeans sit tight in the derriere and thigh, and will make you look trimmer, longer, and altogether sexier. 

Chic Shorts — The chic short might seem like an 

oxymoron, but it's a practical piece of clothing that'll lend some elegance to your warm-weather looks. Just think of it as a flash-free mini!  

Bangs — Bangs might work for you, and they might look awful, but it's nearly impossible to know unless you bite the bullet and just chop it off. 

A Bow Blouse — Even if you think that the bow blouse is too buttoned-up and saccharine, it's a retro staple that dresses up any casual outfit (leave the bow untied for a less girlish look). 

Nail Art — Shell out a little cash for a professional manicure or go wild by yourself by testing out a DIY (and if you screw up, there's always nail polish remover!). Nail art is a low-risk, high-impact styling trick that's easy to get addicted to and — luckily — just as easy to indulge. 

Leather Pants — Don't let Ross Geller convince you of anything different — leather pants are a girl's best friend. We recommend faux here for myriad reasons, but a slick pair of leather pants are the easiest thing to pull on for

A Maxi Skirt — Short gals, tall gals, red gals, and blue gals all can make the maxi skirt work. Dress it up with heels and a chic clutch or dress it down with a leather belt and flats; the maxi dress is a bold piece that doesn't take much effort to style. 

Dainty Oxfords — Yes, you can pull these off. No, you won't look like you're 10 years old in them. Yes, they go with just about anything from jeans to a dress. And yes, you should believe us. 

A Statement Necklace — Outfit looking dull? Pop on a statement necklace and watch as the compliments start rolling in. 

Boyfriend Jeans — Baggy-fit jeans might seem challenging to pull off, but we think it's worth a try. Just remember to pair 'em with some stunning heels and a sleek top, and you'll get some heads a-turnin.' 

A Stiletto Pump — Though the pump might take feats of balance you might not think you have in you, it's a footwear staple that's worth training for. There's nothing more badass than a woman who can walk tall in a pair of stiletto pumps — so keep practicing! 

Vertiginous Platforms — If you haven't experienced the world with a six-inch boost, you're missing out. Platforms come with sturdy heels, ankle straps, and grippy soles so the chances of a wipe-out are pretty slim...which means that even the stability-challenged should give them a go.

A Motorcycle Jacket — Whether you're sweatshirt, or leather type of girl, there's a motorcycle jacket out there to fit your style. It's a secret weapon that makes a sweet outfit spicier, and keeps baggy clothing looking trim.
